Yvan Sabourin completed his musical studies at Université de Montréal and completed a Masters degree in choral conducting at the Université de Sherbrooke with the visiting professor Nicole Paiement. In addition, in 2009, he attended a development program in France with the Director Bernard Tetu.
In the summer of 2007, he first completed a tour in France with the Ensemble vocal Ganymede to then present, as head of workshop, a repertoire of Canadian pieces by composer Lionel Daunais, at the Choralies Internationales d’À Cœur Joie in Vaison-la-Romaine.
Under his leadership, the Ensemble Vocal Ganymede has won the gold medal in the competition of choral part of the 2006 Montreal Outgames and in 2010, the special prize for diversity Choral Festival of Neuchâtel in Switzerland. In the spring of the following year, still with his wand, this male choir recorded O vos omnes, ATMA.
He is also regularly invited to lead choral workshops in France and Belgium, where he participated in the recording of the soundtrack for the Cirque Éloize show NEBBIA, established in Geneva (Switzerland) in 2007.
Yvan Sabourin works with several groups in the metropolitan area, some of which, since 1993, have won awards at the Festival des chorales de Montréal presented by ARCIM. He is a member of the « Alliance des chorales du Québec”, the « Association des chefs de chœur canadiens », « À Cœur Joie », the « American Choral Directors Association » and the « Fédération Internationale pour la Musique Chorale ». He is celebrating 40 years of choral direction in 2022.
